What is the history of the 1911?

The “1911” refers to the Colt Model 1911 pistol, which is one of the most common pistols in the United States and the World. I included a link to our Brother Store – Possenti Enterprises, where you can check out multiple 1911 handguns for sale available today. Basically, it was the standard United State Armed Forces from 1911 (hence the name) to 1985 traveling with the United States Military from World War 1, World War 2, Korean War and all the way to Vietnam. Ultimately in 1985, it was replaced by the Beretta M9, our favorite handgun of all time.

The 1911 was designed by John Browning of Colt. The United States Military was looking for a reliable firearm with the knockdown, stopping power required for the battlefield. John Browning came up the with solution in the 1911. Its 45 ACP round gave the United States Military the reliability and stopping power to make it the standard for handguns for over six decades.

It is still considered a classic firearm on the civilian side because of its reliability and design. Many folks argue it just looks like what people expect a handgun to look like. Its sharp, metal lines stands in stark contrast to the smooth, black composite lines of a Glock or any of the other modern handguns modeled after Glocks. Simply put, it is a classic firearm, it is what a handgun is supposed to look like.

We offer a number of different 1911 style pistols through our Brother Store – Possentienterprises.com and can ship them out to your local FFL today! We also have a number of 1911 accessories available to ship to you today.
