In the last three years, I don’t know if any other round has enjoyed such new found popularity as the 300 Blackout. The real question is why – well it’s complicated honestly there’s a lot of reasons though we are going to try and highlight a few.
First, it is a very lethal round for hunting. It is a relatively slow round, but packs a lot of punch and is extremely lethal because of the tissue deficit it leaves in animals. It’s reporter to be lethal out over 400 yards regardless of the barrel length. Aiding it in its popularity with hunting is its ability to be substantially quieted by suppressors or cans, as they are more commonly called. This is such a great advantage when trying to engage multiple targets, like a herd of wild pigs. Fenix Ammunition did a really great analysis of the lethality of the round.
Secondly, it doesn’t come with nearly as much of a recoil as a 308 or other comparable rounds. While I prefer 308 for hunting alligators and hogs, the 300 Blackout has to be a close second. This round has noticeably less of a recoil compared to the 308 I am used to shooting It’s recoil is almost more comparable to pistol round, if you’re more used to firing larger rifle rounds.
It’s also an extremely versatile round. While initially, it was only chambered for bolt action rifles, it has quickly become a favorite for all sorts of semiautomatic platforms, including the ever popular AR15 platform. There are countless firearms chambered in 300 Blackout in AR15 platforms, but our favorite is the BRO-SPEC 15 manufactured by our friends over at Black Rain Ordnance. This is a light, highly lethal, reliable and easy-to-use firearm. It brings the familiarity of the AR15 platform, with all the benefits of the 300 Blackout round. We love the folks over at Black Rain Ordnance, they are really making some innovative, affordable guns and gun accessories for the American shooter.
It’s also a very, very affordable round when compared to some of its bigger rifle round competitors like 308, 6.5 Creedmore or others. It also hasn’t suffered from market shortages like other rifle rounds in the post-Covid ammo craze. It’s literally always in stock.
We offer many different 300 blackout variants of ammunition, including subsonic variants for your suppressed firearms. Grab a box or two today!
